The UNSW Newsroom has removed an article it republished from The Conversation about Chinese donations which contained a significant factual error.

The article, titled 'A Chinese company gave $3.6 million to Labor while bidding for government work – and it's totally legal', was republished in early September 2016. The article claimed Chinese company Shanghai Zhongfu Group made a donation of more than $3.6 million to the Australian Labor Party in the same year it won the right to develop a controversial food bowl project. In fact, the payment was not a donation, rather it was paid to the Victorian ALP to purchase an office of a building in King St, Melbourne.
