Staff from UNSW’s School of the Arts and Media have started a fundraising appeal to support the rebuilding of schools in Vanuatu.

All schools in Vanuatu have been destroyed or substantially damaged by Tropical Cyclone Pam.

“While the first priority is food, shelter and hygiene for all the people of these islands, the social and emotional supports provided by education are vital to surviving and rebuilding after these calamities,”  a website set up by the School reads.

Its express purpose is to enable members of the UNSW community – and friends further afield – to make financial contributions to providing critical life saving services for children and families and to assist in the rebuilding of schools in Vanuatu, and also buildings in Tuvalu, Kiribati and other islands impacted by the cyclone.

More than $3000 has already been raised, with all donations going to UNICEF, which has specific programs in place targeting children’s critical needs and educational rebuilding.
